IRC School Board Appointments

The School Board of Indian River County is inviting residents to apply for several important citizen appointments that provide input on transportation, school planning, and property tax matters. These positions offer an opportunity for community members to actively participate in shaping local policies and programs.

Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Citizen Position
The Board is seeking a citizen and an alternate to serve on the Indian River County MPO County Citizen Advisory Committee for Transportation. This committee meets the first Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in Conference Room B1-501. The term of the appointment coincides with the Board’s Organization Meeting each November.

School Planning Oversight Committee Citizen Position
A citizen appointment is open for the Indian River County School Planning Citizen Oversight Committee, which monitors the implementation of the Interlocal Agreement for Public School Planning. The committee reports to local governments, the District School Board, and the public on the effectiveness of the agreement. Meeting dates and times are to be determined, and sessions are held in Conference Room B1-501.

County Commission Value Adjustment Board (VAB) Citizen Position
The Board is also seeking a citizen to serve on the County Commission’s Value Adjustment Board for a calendar year/tax cycle. The VAB, established under Florida Statute Chapter 194, allows property owners to appeal property valuations, exemptions, classifications, or tax deferrals. Meetings are held as needed at the County Administration Building “A,” Room A2-511. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements under Florida Statute 194.015.

Application Deadline
Residents interested in serving are encouraged to submit their applications by November 7, 2025. More information and the application link can be found on the School Board’s website or here: https://www.indianriverschools.org/o/sdirc/page/citizen-positions.

These appointments provide a meaningful way for citizens to engage directly in the governance and planning that affect Indian River County’s schools and community services.
